Speech Enable Site

This website is now speech-enabled, which means that you can download free software onto your computer and have the site read aloud to you. The free software is called Browsealoud, and is used on over 2000 websites.

Browsealoud

Browsealoud is a free plugin that enables web pages to be read to you.

Browsealoud may help those people who have a good understanding of the English language but do not find reading easy. It is, however, not suitable for the visually impaired.

If you install the Browsealoud plugin on your PC, you can have the web pages on the Hereford Hospitals website read to you as well as other websites that are speech-enabled. As you move the cursor over text, it is spoken aloud. You can also customize the voice, word pronunciations and speech highlighting.

Browsealoud is a Windows browser plug-in designed for use with Internet Explorer 4 upwards or Netscape Navigator. Your computer must have a sound card fitted for Browsealoud to work and you will need speakers, or headphones.

Downloading Browsealoud

When you follow the download Browsealoud link you will be taken to an external website where you will find full instructions on how to download and install the plug-in. This is free software that you will only need to download once.

Once the installation is complete the Browsealoud icon will be placed in your system tray which is at the bottom right of your computer. If you double click this icon it will open the Browsealoud application.
