Mr Matthew Oakley

Job Title: Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon

Qualifications

Mr Oakley studied Medicine at Glasgow University, graduating in 1991. His specialist registrar training was on the Northern Regional Orthopaedic Training Programme whilst living in Durham. In 2001, he passed his FRCS (Tr & Orth) and completed an Arthroplasty Fellowship at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham, and a Trauma fellowship in Denver, Colorado, USA. He returned, as a Consultant, to Hereford in 2003.

Research interests include hip and knee replacement, and arthroscopic knee surgery. Research papers on:

  2. DVT Prophylaxis (BMJ)
  3. Hip Fractures (Injury)
  4. Fixation of Clavicle Fractures (EFFORT)
  5. The Subvastus (minimally invasive) Approach to TKR (Journal Arthroplasty)
  6. The long-term results of the St Ledger knee replacement (Journal Arthroplasty)

Mr Oakley and his team operate all day Tuesday.

    • Total Knee replacement

    • Revision knee replacement surgery

    • Cartilage regeneration (micro fracture and OATs)

    • Uni-compartmental Knee replacement

  • Osteoarthritis hip - procedures performed:

    • Total Hip replacement
    • Hip resurfacing
  • Rheumatoid arthritis - procedures performed:

    • Lower limb joint replacement
  • Sports injury of the knee - procedures performed:

    • ACL and other ligament repair reconstruction
