Preparing for your stay in hospital

here for you to read to help you prepare for your stay in hospital.  This information will also be available for you at your bedside if you are staying overnight in one of our hospitals.

What to bring with you 

We have provided a list of items that you need to bring with you for your stay in hospital.

Do bring...

  • Any medicines or tablets you are taking
  • Pyjamas or night-dress
  • Dressing gown and slippers
  • Daywear – tracksuit or comfortable clothes
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Soap and deodorant
  • Shaving equipment if appropriate
  • Sanitary products if appropriate
  • A book or magazines
  • Spectacles if you need them
  • Small change for newspapers or bedside TV and telephone
  • Underwear
  • Bath towel and a flannel or sponge
  • Tissues
  • Bottle of squash (jugs of water provided)
  • Walking aid – frame, stick, crutches – if you need them 

Don’t bring…

  • Large amounts of money
  • Valuables such as jewellery
  • Television or radio
  • Alcohol

If you are coming to hospital for an inpatient stay, please remember to bring your medicines in with you and any information you may have in relation to the medicines you routinely take at home. This way we can ensure you continue to receive the correct medicines during your stay in hospital. Where appropriate these medicines will be used during your inpatient stay.
