School offer

We offer work experience opportunities for school aged children, in Years 10-11 (14-16 years old). 

We currently offer a two day programme specifically for school aged learners who are interested in a career in the NHS. This offer is designed to expose the learners to what roles work in the NHS and what these roles actually do. It is also an opportunity for the learners to build on the many transferable skills that are required for the numerous roles within the organisation. This includes, but is not limited to: team work, communication, assessing various situations and adaptability. 

Throughout the two days, and while in this safe space, there is great emphasis and encouragement for the learners to engage and participate in all the activities to exercise and develop their skills and knowledge, which we hope will begin to prepare them for their future careers. 

Activities that we have previously facilitated include: simulation sessions, an introduction into manual handling (with some hands on practice), a scavenger hunt, an introduction to clinical observations and an introduction to the Allied Health Professions to name a few. We are very open to building on our offer and we are more than happy to work with schools to adapt the sessions that are facilitated to ensure we meet the needs of the learners. 

We have a maximum capacity per school group which can be discussed on enquiry. 

How can I access this? 

This offer is arranged directly through the school. We work with school representatives to book and schedule these days. If you are the work experience representative from a school email workexperience@wvt.nhs.uk to arrange suitable dates. 

The team requires at least 6 month’s notice to ensure we have adequate time to plan and facilitate the sessions. 

If you are a parent/guardian and you would like your child’s school to participate in this offer please discuss this with the schools work experience representative in the first instance.
